Mollie Binkley is a filmmaker and activist who hails from Texas. After graduating from Vanderbilt, she worked at Fox Studios before working on set in NY. In 2011, she wrote and directed her first film, OCCUPIED, a psychological drama about a schizophrenic woman. It premiered at Lone Star Film Festival and secured distribution in US and France, earning accolades from NAMI. Since then, she has been developing tv and film. Her tv projects include: LET US PREY, about a vigilante taking on the gun lobby; FREQUENCY, about a female DJ battling damaging frequencies; SCIONS, exploring the power struggle between two real estate families from NY and Hong Kong; and CIGAR CITY (co-created by Alexis Carra) about a Cuban American family’s rise and fall in Florida’s cigar boomtown. Mollie wrote and directed HOME CARRY, a proof of concept for film, ALMOST HEAVEN, delving into America’s evangelical gun culture.
In 2020, Mollie secured the rights to Xinran’s book, SKY BURIAL, recounting a Chinese woman’s journey across Tibet in search of her husband. Mollie is also developing an immersive rock musical, SHELTER, with producer Jim Hart and composer James Raymond.
Eager to spotlight unique female narratives, Mollie gravitates towards true stories and unexplored worlds (past, present and fantastical), endeavoring to shine light on and better understand the human condition.
